Skiing Holiday's Avoriaz

Avoriaz sits at an altitude of 1800m on a fabulous cliff-top setting at the centre of the massive Portes du Soleil ski area. This being a high-altitude resort, the highest in the Portes du Soleil, ensures that it stays snow sure right until the end of the ski season.

Built in the 1960′s with architecture designed to blend into the surrounding mountains, with mostly wood and slate being used which is in keeping with the natural surroundings rather than the ‘concrete jungles’ that some of the other resorts are today. Being a completely car-free resort, it has been made possible to ski to the door of most of the resort's buildings. Horse and sleigh have replaced cars and children and adults alike can go around on sledges or ski’s/snowboards.

Avoriaz offers plenty of restaurants, cafés and bars many with terraces where you can sit outside and soak up the alpine sunshine. Avoriaz offers several late-night bars for the party goers, shops, banks, grocery stores, bakery and cake shops, pharmacy and medical centre.

Skiing in Avoriaz

The Portes du Soleil being one of the world’s largest linked ski areas boasts 2 countries: France and Switzerland and 12 resorts; 8 French and 4 Swiss. 650km of groomed runs some of which criss-cross over the French/Swiss border. The ski area is so large there is something for everyone and the altitude guarantees snow cover from December to April, with an average of 8m of snow every winter.

Avoriaz is ideally located in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area with fast modern lifts and pistes fanning out in all directions. You will ski through stunning countryside, with open panoramic views of the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches. Whether you like to take it easy or push yourself to the limits, you will find a wide choice of routes on varied terrain, skiing down into broad, open valleys on pistes running through the trees. It’s a family skiing experience that appeals to skiers of all ages!

5 snow cross areas and 6 snow parks; 2 of which are dedicated to young children: The Lil Stash and Burton Kids Parkway snow parks.

Village des Enfants – In this ideal setting Annie Famose has designed and built the Village des Enfants, a leisure centre and ski & snowboard school that is approved by the “Jeunesse & Sport” government ministry. Situated in the heart of Avoriaz, the Village des Enfants welcomes children from the age of 3 from 9am to 5:30pm. More than 100 instructors and supervisors are available to teach young skiers and to show them all that this exceptional resort has to offer. Children are offered lunch and tea in the Village restaurant and there are various après ski activities adapted to different age groups.
